ART 105, Introduction to Art History S1:
In this course, students will develop a basic vocabulary for describing visual art, an understanding of the functions of imagery, and explore the role art has played throughout Western and Non-Western history and contemporary trends. The focus of this course is describing, exploring, and participating in the creative process in order to better understand the role of art in history. This course is recommended for students considering careers in architecture, art education, art history, ceramics, fashion design, interior architecture, interior design, landscape design, or studio art or future enrollment in the AP Art History course. ART 231, Intermediate Art History In this course, students will develop a deeper vocabulary for describing visual art, an understanding of the functions of imagery, and explore the role art has played throughout Western and Non-Western history and contemporary trends. The focus of this course is describing, exploring, and participating in the creative process in order to better understand the role of art in history. This course is recommended for students considering careers in architecture, art education, art history, ceramics, fashion design, interior architecture, interior design, landscape design, or studio art or future enrollment in the AP Art History course ART 503, AP Art History S1: In this course, students examine major forms of artistic expression from the ancient world to the present and from a variety of cultures. They learn view and analyze works of art within their historical context, and to articulate what they see or experience in a meaningful way. A meaningful way to experience works of art is learning to frame an understanding that relates how and why works of art communicate visual meaning. Completion of the AP exam is an expectation for all AP courses. ART 504, AP Art History S2: In this course, students examine major forms of artistic expression from the ancient world to the present and from a variety of cultures. They learn view and analyze works of art within their historical context, and to articulate what they see or experience in a meaningful way. A meaningful way to experience works of art is learning to frame an understanding that relates how and why works of art communicate visual meaning.
