Happy National Arts in Education Week!
In honor of Arts in Education Week and in case it isn't abundantly clear, thank you all so much for being such an amazing and diverse collection of art teachers. Your dedication and passion for teaching the students of Des Moines is truly the engine that drives our work forward as we strive to become The model for urban arts education. For more information on National Arts in Education Week and additional advocacy resources, please follow the link below... https://www.arteducators.org/advocacy/arts-in-education-week Arts in Education Week • National Art Education Association www.arteducators.org A National Spotlight for Arts Education. Save the Date for National Arts in Education Week, September 10 - 16, 2017. Whether you are a student, educator, parent, or ... Middle and high school art teachers -- don't forget to carry out the collaboratively designed instruction from our September 7th PLC and collect a few pieces of student evidence for our next meeting on November 16th. Think about collecting 2-4 pieces at various performance levels for scoring and calibration with your colleagues. Feel free to create digital images for scoring so that kids can take their work home or display it in your school. An email reminder will be delivered to your inbox as well. See you in November!
Each year our Superintendent sends out greetings and warm wishes to members of our community during the holidays, and each year student artists provide the images on the cards. We are excited to participate in this tradition again this year! This year we are opening up the submissions to all students and will choose one from Elementary, Middle School, and High School. The art work does not need to be holiday or winter themed, just high quality. High resolution photographs should be emailed to Sarah Dougherty at [email protected] by October 15th. All submissions should include student name, grade, school, and art teacher name. CHALLENGE FOR MIDDLE SCHOOLS: The last time we had a middle school represented was in 2011 when we used a piece from a Meredith student. Let’s make sure that a middle school student is given a chance to shine this year!
Welcome back, ART TEACHERS! In lieu of an in-person department meeting, we are testing out this virtual meeting format. Please watch the video below to orient yourself to our department operational procedures.
There are two upcoming opportunities for DMPS art teachers to spend some time in collaboration with other art teacher from across the district. These are paid PD hours and are completely optional. Time will be spent planning instruction around curriculum guides and develop district CFAs. See below for specific dates and times. All sessions are held in Conference Room B at 2100 Fleur Drive. If you are planning to attend, please connect with Sarah Dougherty at [email protected].
